Replace worn chains and sprockets as a set whenever possible. Installing a new chain on hooked sprocket teeth, or fitting a new sprocket to a stretched chain, shortens the life of both. Keep the chain adjusted to the manufacturer's specification, lubricate it appropriately for conditions, and inspect the chain guide and slider. The strongest part is useless if it does not fit the bike correctly. Year, make, model, wheel size, axle diameter, rotor bolt pattern, sprocket bolt pattern, and spacing all matter. A component that appears similar in a product image can have different offsets or dimensions that create clearance problems, alignment issues, or unsafe operation.
